I fell in love with France, French, and everything français on my first visit to Paris at the age of 12. The love affair has been long and faithful. While pursuing a life-long dream to live in France, I had an immediate “coup-de-Coeur” in 2012 for this quintessentially French town of Pézenas in the Languedoc region of southern France.
More than 10 years of restoration and renovation later, I have poured time, love, and resources into transforming this beautiful space. There’s always one last transformation or upgrade project to start, and with the help of some extraordinary local artisans, Porte 22 has become a haven of history and inspiration, as much as for me as for our guests.
Built in 1662, our contribution here is a brief moment in time among generations of stories gone by and still to come.

Surrounding Pézenas, you’ll find rolling vineyards producing exquisite wines, idyllic countryside dotted with olive groves, and the opportunity to immerse yourself in the stunning landscapes of the Parc Naturel Régional du Haut-Languedoc.
Ride the wild river on canoe-kayaks 1 hour away on the Roquebrun; 20 minutes to the south and you’re on the Mediterranean coast and the silver sands at Grau d’Agde; 45minutes eastward and you’re in the region’s impressive and vibrant capital Montpellier; and everything in between.
Lovingly managed by the owners (not by a management company!), Porte 22’s (no-smoking & no pets) accommodation is located on the first floor (ie above the ground floor) of our three-floor home. The first floor is reserved exclusively for holiday guests. If you appreciate wooden beams, exposed interior stone, original floor tiles “tomettes”, and being located just steps from the town center and weekly market, you will feel at home at Porte 22.

A gorgeous sun drenched and night lit roof terrace for your exclusive use, as well as secure parking. Reversible heat / AC units, custom designed French kitchen fully equipped & stocked, stylish furniture locally sourced (no Ikea!), luxury linens, high speed Fibre Optic WiFi, TV, 3 mountain bikes games; and a generous welcome basket filled with local products.

Fresh baked croissants to start the day, followed by a side trip to the mediterranean coast and, to finish. a 3-course evening meal with a bottle (or two) of local wine at your side.
The secluded roof top terrace is all yours. Still and tranquil, a heat lover’s paradise. Large relaxation sunbeds in the shade. A kitchenette with sink, microwave, and bar fridge: keep the drinks and the cheese at the temperature they love. Bring a good book, now’s the quiet time to catch up on some reading…
For a small town, Pezenas is brimming with restaurants: In addition to the dominant French cuisine, you can also find Greek, Japanese, Thai, and North African specialities. Outdoor cafes for a morning boost and afternoon tea are plenty. Take your pick.

To add even more sparkle to the Porte 22 fairy tale, if there was ever a perfect example of serendipity it was during an evening in 2013 at a local Pézenas establishment when our vibrant restaurant host overheard us planning the rental accommodation of Porte22. She stopped by our table and asked, “So you’re starting an Airbnb? Who’s going to meet and greet your guests and ensure the turnover is perfectly carried out?” and… voilà, the most valuable asset of Porte 22 was discovered: Patty Berfelo. Patty has lived most of her life in France and knows all there is to know about Pézenas and beyond. We have received as many (if not more) high praises for Patty’s guest services over the years than we have about the accommodation itself!

Absolutely fantastic stay and would happily come back. Patty the housekeeper was a star and took time to make us feel settled in and was on hand to help during our stay. The apartment was comfortable, had loads of character and had everything we could ask for. A lot of time and effort had been taken to make sure we had the best possible stay. The rooftop terrace was amazing and we enjoyed relaxing there at meal times!

The perfect place to spend a week in Pézenas. With the convenient private parking, it is ideal for day tripping the Occitanie region. Everything in the old town is in easy walking with great restautants in the same street. The apartment is magic – built on the original bones of the old town you feel the history, yet beautifully decorated and appointed with everything you could want to self cater. Morning coffee on the lounge balcony looking down on the locals going about their business; sundown drinks on the magic roof top balcony. Patty’s great introduction to the apartment and everything around made us feel immediately relaxed and at home. Louise was unbelievably helpful and both were accessable and supporting throughout our stay.

Porte 22 is a stylish, authentic property filled with original features. Wonderfully equipped and there is nothing that Louise hasn’t thought of. Louise is really friendly and helpful, and Patty gave us a great welcome with a thorough tour of Porte 22 and was on hand if needed any local information. So nice to be right in the heart of a very old French town. Pezenas is a gorgeous little town that just kept on giving, you think you’ve seen it all, but then you wander down another little side street and stand in amazement again. Just back from a fantastic 5 night stay at Porte 22. This is a fabulous property that exceeded expectations. Extremely clean and lovely decor. Little things like hooks on the back of the doors, plenty of coat hangers in the wardrobes – everything had been thought about. We especially enjoyed the rooftop terrace in the evenings when back from dinner. Visited some great restaurants, and especially enjoyed ‘Les Estivales’ on Monday evening. Thank you to Patty for an extremely warm welcome and for being flexible with our check-in and check-out. Louise, you have a very special place in a town that’s very special to us…we will be back for sure!

This is probably the most beautiful city apartment you can find in Pézenas. It is on a charming alley and is in a great location. Parking is very close by. Pézenas is really very pretty and worth a short trip. We recommend ordering a coffee in the Café des Arts in the morning – for croissants and the like, you can get the best pastries for little money at the bakery across the street and officially enjoy them in the café. Très sympa!❤❤❤

It was one of the best homes we’ve been to. I already want to go back! It was a real treat to be in this house, full of charm, history, and countless details that make you feel at home and have absolutely everything and more than you could need. Details like offering you a welcome basket with local products, providing you with coffee, oil, vinegar, etc. (and much, much more) make a big difference. You can tell they take great care of their guests. And every corner of this home. Louise has been a delight at all times, very responsive and communicative, and Patty’s welcome was wonderful. We will never forget it. Thank you both for everything and for your generosity. The location of the house is perfect and makes you feel like part of the city right away. Pézenas has stolen our hearts: its streets, its buildings, its doors, the craft shops… and we are already thinking about going back soon. Don’t hesitate to choose this accommodation.
